Janina Glasov

Janina Glasov was a young journalist, fiction writer and burgeoning filmmaker. Glasov wrote for The Bay Guardian and Oakland Magazine and was awarded The Sander Thoenes Journalism Research Award and the Gregory and Toni Prince Research Award for Bad Girls and Their Stories of Glory, a piece of long-form literary journalism aimed at redefining notions of “deviance” and exposing gender stereotypes that limit and distort cultural understandings of women leading unconventional lives. In May of 2015, she moved to Brooklyn to further her writing, while completing an internship at Zachary Shuster Harmsworth Literary Agency in New York City. She died tragically in July 2016, while reworking the stories in Bad Girls for magazine publication and developing an historical narrative on her immigrant grandparents’ post WWII experience. Janina Glasov is one of some 60,000, mostly young people across the country, who died in 2016 in the massive fentanyl-opiate epidemic.
