Britney Hill

Bay Area born and raised, Britney Hill has spent much time living on both the West and East Coasts, but accredits much of her creativity and flair to the experiences in which she gained living down South in Atlanta, GA. As an out of place city girl in the rural South, she found herself immersed in the craft of poetry, and became interested in the art of spoken word during her teenage years. She eventually found herself center stage, where she came into her own as a poet during her early twenties, and she’s very much so still active today. A writer in her own right, she is the author of “Adventures at Grandma’s,” which earned her the DeClercq Poetry Prize, and publication in Occam's Razor’s 30th Anniversary Edition. Under the mentorship of award-winning journalist and author, Meredith May, Britney’s current projects include an untitled collection of spiritual poems, and a short story Creative Non-Fiction assembly entitled, Pieces of me, which mirrors such themes as hardship, trauma, love, and rejection. Her background is in English Literature, in which she holds both a BA and MFA, with a specification in Creative Writing from California State University, East Bay, and Mills College respectively. She is quoted saying, “My only regret is not submitting more work, and sooner. My biggest hurdle is me.” She is currently a second grade teacher, and resides in Oakland, California with her 7-year-old daughter, Kai’Lí.
